It is clear and without a doubt children are fascinated by sitting before the computer screen. This is an indication that their motivation levels and their state of readiness are indeed high. The challenge and responsibility therefore is to have well thought out and planned lessons of instruction that will not only engage their thinking faculties but also to help them achieve lesson objectives along the learning continuum.
The question I asked is this "How often do teachers in T & T use a planned lesson of instruction to teach their class?" I suspect strongly the truth is up there in the clouds.
The implication is that if teachers are to successfully use ICT tools to enhance learning, they MUST engage in meaningful planning of lessons to be ready for a feat that is still beyond many of us - teaching using ICT's. As reading specialist we'll need to work smart to make sure our impact on the education system is not piecemeal but academically explosive.

Studies have indeed shown that technology could make a difference to academic achievement, but this depends on how it is used. So, planned lessons of instruction are necessary as Vicky stated if there is to be meaningful learning outcomes and effective assessments. Education for this new millennium must provide authentic educational experiences for our youth. However, this can only be achieved if greater emphasis is placed on preparing teachers to use technology for instructional purposes, and maybe then teachers' use of technology will increase.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more.We know ourselves as teachers. When it comes to convincing our colleagues, we will have to ensure that we sell benefits of information andtechnology intergration as a vitamin for stronger instructional impact and improved results and not more work which is a hard and bitter pill.

Well said and quite true , we do need to plan our lesson carefully, paying special attention to our objective and the needs of our students. However permit me to add, that we too as educators must also appear motivated to do the task in front of us. we must provide ourselves as stimuli if these lessons are to be fully engaging to our students , like Dr.Conrad(2010) said "we must first model the behaviour we wish our students to display." Once this is applied with proper planning, all technology driven instruction will indeed be successful.
